During the 2018 Republican Party Primary, voters had the opportunity to vote on proposition #7. This proposition gave voters the chance to voice their opinion if they were "In Favor" or "Against" this following statement: " I believe abortion should be abolished in Texas." In Howard County, out of 2,067 votes, 1,608 voted in favor of the idea of abolishing abortion in the state of Texas and 459 voted against the idea abolishing abortion in the state of Texas.

On May 7th, 2020 the City Council of Coahoma voted against outlawing abortion within their city limits by the passing of the Sanctuary Cities for the Unborn Ordinance. The vote was 3 against, 1 abstaining, with 1 absent.

“On 31 December 2018, the Breitbart.com website reported under the headline “Abortion Leading Cause of Death in 2018 with 41 Million Killed” that “there have been some 41.9 million abortions performed in the course of the year,” making abortion “the number one cause of death worldwide in 2018, with more than 41 million children killed before birth.” This is simply unacceptable and barbaric. A million of those babies are taken annually in the US. 55,000 are done in Texas alone each year. We have become calloused as a society to the reality of this tragedy. Maybe this is because we just haven't met these precious babies, therefore they are treated as though they are not human beings. The declaration of independence supports protecting these unborn humans, " We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." We as a society have every obligation to follow through with our responsibility to do everything we can to ensure these scientifically confirmed human beings are protected in our own neighborhood. We have a very tight knit community, one that has many things to be proud of. We ought to stand boldly in our community to support mothers and their children who fall into situations of hardship. I for one am willing to do that. I don't believe I'm the only one in Coahoma that feels this way. These babies can't even cry for help. That means they need someone else to help them and love them. God has given the governing authorities jurisdiction to provide safety and uphold justice. Abortion is neither safe nor just. From everything I can see and understand and I have looked very hard, there is no reason a city can't outlaw abortion clinics within their jurisdiction. It is no different than banning engine brakes or smoking inside public buildings. Abortion isn't a women's rights issue because 50% of all abortions kill a little girl inside the womb. It would be cowardly to stand by and watch this move into our city when we have a way to keep it out. That is what loving Coahoma looks like. These kids deserve a chance to breathe and to sit underneath Friday night football lights. No one has the right to take that away.” - Chase P.

“The value of life. The value of the child’s life, the value of the mother’s life, and the purpose for the child’s existence-glorify God. If we continue to support abortion as a country, what message are we sending to the generations to come? We are showing them that we can choose who lives and dies, which leads to desensitization of life. We are choosing who we think is deemed as worthy and worthless. It defeats our seeking to stop bullying, rebellion, school shootings, crime, and overall murder. The mother’s emotional health has been used as a means of choice. Mothers who have made this Choice in the past have reported ongoing emotions throughout life due to the trauma inflicted on their bodies and minds. We all have choices in Life, and we make our choices based on the consequences. If a woman does not want pregnancy as the consequence, then be proactive and choose differently instead of choosing reactively.” - Courtney S.
