During Sterling County's 2016 Presidential Election 86.7% (549) voted Republican, 11.1% (70) voted Democrat, and 2.2% (14) voted for other candidates.

In addition to the consideration of these numbers it is also worthy to consider that one of the official planks of the Republican Party of Texas 2020 Platform reads, “We support the right of Texas municipalities to protect mothers and preborn children in their communities by passing enforceable city ordinances that ban abortions and abortion industry businesses within their city limits.” 92.3% of Republican Party of Texas delegates voted in favor of this plank being added to the Republican Party of Texas 2020 Party Platform.
