The majority of Houston County’s voting population are conservative republicans who wish to see abortion outlawed in the state of Texas. During Houston County's 2016 Presidential Election 74.3% (6,205) voted Republican, 23.7% (1,978) voted Democrat, and 2.0% (170) voted for other candidates.
During the 2018 Republican Party Primary, voters had the opportunity to vote on proposition #7. This proposition gave voters the chance to voice their opinion if they were "In Favor" or "Against" this following statement: " I believe abortion should be abolished in Texas." In Houston County, out of 2,528 votes, 1,972 voted in favor of the idea of abolishing abortion in the state of Texas and 556 voted against the idea abolishing abortion in the state of Texas.
One of the planks of the Republican Party of Texas 2020 Platform reads, "We support the right of Texas municipalities to protect mothers and preborn children in their communities by passing enforceable city ordinances that ban abortions and abortion industry businesses within their city limits." 92.3% of Republican Party of Texas delegates voted in favor of this plank being added to the Republican Party of Texas 2020 Party Platform.

On March 15th, 2021 the City Council of Latexo voted on the Sanctuary City for the Unborn Ordinance. The vote by the City Council was 4 for the ordinance and 0 against the ordinance. In taking this action the City of Latexo became the twenty-third city to outlaw abortion in the nation.
