During Eastland County's 2016 Presidential Election 86.3% (6,011) voted Republican, 11.1% (776) voted Democrat, and 2.5% (176) voted for other candidates. During Eastland County's 2020 Presidential Election 87.24% (7,216) voted Republican, 11.87% (982) voted Democrat, and 0.89% (73) voted for other candidates.
One of the planks of the Republican Party of Texas 2020 Platform reads, "We support the right of Texas municipalities to protect mothers and preborn children in their communities by passing enforceable city ordinances that ban abortions and abortion industry businesses within their city limits." 92.3% of Republican Party of Texas delegates voted in favor of this plank being added to the Republican Party of Texas 2020 Party Platform.

On February 24th, 2021 the City Council of Carbon voted on the Sanctuary City for the Unborn Ordinance. The vote by the City Council was unanimous. In taking this action the City of Carbon became the twentieth city to outlaw abortion in the nation.
